Who We Are
The Country Day School (CDS) of Jefferson County is an independent school nestled in the picturesque Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia in the northern Shenandoah Valley. The school, four miles west of Charles Town on State Route 51, is situated on 30 acres of beautiful rolling farmland. Many of our students and faculty reside in West Virginia (Jefferson and Berkeley Counties) while others commute from Virginia (Clarke, Frederick, and Loudon Counties) and Maryland (Washington County).
CDS was established in 1982 to provide a thorough, well-rounded education for a broad spectrum of children from pre-school through the ninth grade. The overall philosophy and purpose of CDS is to provide an academically-challenging core curriculum empowered by the three R's of personal development (Reason, Respect, and Responsibility - the school's motto). We take great pride in our highly skilled and dedicated faculty. We limit our class size so our teachers can provide the individualized attention your child deserves. Individual instruction and stimulating classes are hallmarks of the school's mission to foster the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of each pupil.
The most successful learning occurs in a safe, nurturing, and orderly environment such as we provide. We respect the rights of individual students to observe their religious holidays and traditions within the school community. It is of paramount importance for CDS to provide, through caring instruction, the opportunity for each student to grow, develop, and become a responsible citizen.
West Virginia does not have an accreditation process for private schools. However, we are recognized by the state and participate in all State and National testing.
